WHO is invited to continue to monitor progress through its global status reports on road safety. The current Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 has laid the foundation for accelerated action in the years ahead through its inclusion of road safety on the global health and development agenda, broad dissemination of scientific guidance on what works, strengthening of partnerships and networks, and mobilization of resources. - 10/07 Since the beginning of the year, we launched project “Childhood without danger” in 3 Russian regions. The project is a part of the national project “Safe and high-quality roads ” and the federal project “Road Safety”. “Childhood without danger” is a three-year project for the prevention of children road traffic injuries. It includes trainings for the mothers in perinatal centers and maternity hospitals. The project started in June 2019 and reached that year 30 regions. In just half a year, we conducted 989 classes, during which about 3 thousand young mothers and future parents were trained. In 2020, the project will cover 35 regions and another 35 are the goal for the 2021. In total, from 2019 to 2021, the project “Childhood without danger” will cover 100 cities in 85 regions of the Russian Federation. During this time, medical staff of the perinatal centers will conduct trainings several times a week on the installation and use of certified child restraints, compliance with the “child mode” on the road (optimal speed mode, accurate driving) etc. The project is implemented by the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with the support of the Ministry of Health of Russia and the expert center “Road Safety Russia”. The key objective of the campaign is to carry out complex activities in different communication channels aimed at preventing wrong way driving and evaluating factors when making a dangerous maneuver such as overtaking. “The 2017 official accident rate statistics show that 15.1 thousand (-9.1%) of traffic accidents registered on the Russian roads were associated with wrong way driving, which killed 4.9 thousand (-7.5%) people and injured over 27.8 thousand (-9.1%) people. These traffic accidents account for 10.5% of all the car crashes involving non-compliance by drivers with driving regulations. The State Traffic Police Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia pays special attention to prevention of offenses associated with wrong way driving as traffic accidents caused by this violation are characterized by the most serious consequences”, said Mikhail Chernikov, Head of the State Traffic Police Inspectorate. Statistics show that 9% of Russians have overtaken on the wrong traffic lane along with other road users for the last year.
