The Governor of Sverdlovsk region suffered a car crash

A business class foreign-made car in which the governor of Sverdlovsk region Alexander Misharin was riding had a head-on collision with passenger car "Volga". The senior official and his driver were brought to the hospital intensive care unit in serious condition; the driver of the "Volga" car was killed.

 The accident took place at the evening of December 1 on the 206 km of Moscow - Serov highway near Kachkanar. The collision involved three cars: Volga Syber, Skoda Octavia and Mercedes. The governor of Sverdlovsk region Alexander Misharin was inside the executive class Mercedes;  the governor was coming back from Severouralsk where he had public meetings and talked to miners in the course of the election campaign.

As a result of the accidentthe 65 year old Volga driver died at the accident scene, the Governor Alexander Misharin and his driver were seriously injured and were brought to the intensive care, the driver and passenger in Skoda sustained minor bruises. The front of the Governor's car was smashed and caved in up to the windshield, the "Volga" turned into a pile of metal scrap.

The reasons of the accident have not been established. no public announcement of the causes was made. Several versions were put forward. It was assumed that either Volga or Mercedes car were not fully operational. The weather conditions were bad on the day the accident happened: the road was slippery, it was snowing and raining, the "wipers" could not wipe rain and snow from the windshield which caused poor visibility for drivers. In addition the section of the highway where the accident happened was in poor condition. So far the investigators did not inform how fast the cars had been moving right before the MVA.

The scene of the accident was visited personally by the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Sverdlovsk region Mikhail Borodin. The criminal investigations were initiated on the facts of the MVA to explore the chances of offense subject to Section 3 of the Article 264 of the Criminal Code ("Violation of the traffic rules resulting in unintentional death.")
