Vadim Melnikov, Director General of the Expert Center The "Road Safety Russia", took part in the international forum "Innovative Technologies and Intelligent Transport Systems in Road Construction", which was held in Sochi from 13 to 15 September.

The forum was organized by the state company "Russian Highways" with the participation of the Government, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Construction of Russia, the Federal Road Agency, the Main Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The key topics for discussion were innovations in road construction and modern intelligent transport systems.

The event was attended by representatives of government, science and business, experts in the field of transport systems and road construction. The speakers outlined the current problems of the industry, shared their proposals for solving them and expressed ideas for the innovative development of the Russian road industry.

In his speech, Vadim Melnikov raised the issue of the general level of road culture, spoke about the importance of awareness-raising work with road users, analyzed the experience of European countries and shared ideas for creating qualitatively new communication tools.

“There are three key factors affecting road safety: the regulatory framework, infrastructure solutions and education. According to statistics, most of the accidents occur due to violations of traffic rules by road users themselves. In any case, the vehicle is driven by a person, and he does it by virtue of his knowledge and skills, therefore, it is the work with the consciousness of people, it is the communication tools that should come to the fore.

We are currently implementing a project to modernize driver training programs. They must have an understanding of how to behave on the road, especially when driving on highways, how to avoid secondary accidents. A separate block is necessary to study the topic of environmentally friendly driving. These points should be included in the program, which is currently being developed,” said Vadim Melnikov.
