The social campaign “Your move! A pedestrian"

30 June 2021

On June 29, at the site of the Izvestia media center, an opening press conference was held, which gave an official start to the new all-Russian social campaign “Your move! A pedestrian". The campaign, aimed at improving the safety of pedestrians and reducing their mortality in road traffic accidents, will be held in 15 Russian regions as part of the federal project "Road Safety" and the national project "Safe High-Quality Roads" with the support of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

The press conference was attended by Deputy Head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Major General of Police Oleg Ponaryin, Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy in the Field of Protection of Children's Rights of the Ministry of Education of Russia Yulia Kostyryachenko, Director of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Institute for the Study of Childhood, Family and Education of the Russian Academy Education ”, Deputy Chairperson of the Public Council under the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation Natalya Agra and Director for Project Work of the Expert Center“ The Safety Russia ”Valentina Kulbitskaya.

As Oleg Ponaryin noted in his speech, the number of accidents with pedestrians in 2020 compared to 2019 decreased by 18.4%. One of the reasons is the restrictions due to the pandemic, but most importantly, pedestrians have become more disciplined in general. Over the past 10 years, the number of killed and injured pedestrians on our roads has halved. However, in 15 regions of the country, there is still an increase in accidents involving pedestrians. The Astrakhan, Arkhangelsk, Vladimir, Vologda, Kirov, Magadan, Omsk, Penza, Tver, Yaroslavl regions, the city of Sevastopol, the republics of Buryatia, Tyva, North Ossetia, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District are among the “problem areas”.

Each region will host about 180 events, including seminars, trainings, consultations, games, designed to remind pedestrians of the need to comply with traffic rules. Particular attention will be paid to children, who often go outside during the summer holidays. Activities for them and teachers who work in the field of road safety will cover key educational organizations.

The second "risk group" is elderly pedestrians. The severity of road accidents with their participation is especially great. They will also be reminded to follow the rules and be the right role model for small pedestrians.

“Today in the Russian Federation a lot of work is going on to return upbringing to the education system. The Ministry of Education, the State Traffic Inspectorate pay great attention to this topic, interacting with teachers, educators, parents day after day throughout the country, continue this most important component. I am sure that we will be able to systematize this work and make it continuous, so that the road user grows up taking care of his own safety and the safety of his loved ones. This is one of the fundamental qualities of a citizen of the Russian Federation, ”says Natalia Agra.

As Valentina Kulbitskaya told the social campaign “Your move! Pedestrian "is designed for people of all ages and social groups, because every driver and passenger is also a pedestrian who may not know or understand a lot.

"We educate people, remind, inform, give knowledge and speak, and now your turn is a pedestrian!" - she emphasized.
