The State Traffic Inspectorate launches an all-Russian social campaign dedicated to the safety of pedestrians - “Your move! A pedestrian"

29 June 2021

On June 29 at 12.00 at the site of the Izvestia media center a new all-Russian social campaign “Your move! A pedestrian". The campaign aimed at improving the safety of pedestrians and reducing their mortality in road accidents will be held within the framework of the federal project "Road Safety" of the national project "Safe High-Quality Roads" with the support of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation Federation and the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

According to official statistics of accidents, over the past decade, the number of road traffic accidents (RTAs) with collisions with pedestrians has decreased by 43%, the number of injured has decreased by 44%, and the number of deaths by 50%. But, despite the positive trend, the problem of fatalities on the roads remains acute, and to solve it, relevant government ministries and departments are taking comprehensive measures, including conducting educational social campaigns at the local and federal levels.

In 2020, even despite the restrictions on movement associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 34,240 (-16.8%) pedestrian collisions, in which 4,205 (-7.7%) people died, 31,430 (- 18.1%) people.

The growing number of vehicles, the steadily increasing number of cyclists and those who travel by means of individual mobility, affects the growth of road risks for the freest, but also the most vulnerable category of road users. Pedestrians are inferior in speed and safety to drivers and need special attention when developing and implementing road safety measures.

The main idea of the campaign is to develop a safe road space by increasing responsibility and understanding of risks among pedestrians as well as drivers. The main message of the campaign is that the pedestrian is the freest road user. Road safety is a tool that helps a pedestrian to exercise their freedom safely while continuing to walk. Knowledge of the rules of the road, observance of the norms of the culture of interaction on the road can make a pedestrian's path truly convenient and safe.

Based on the analysis of statistical data, key problems and main risk factors for citizens of all ages were identified, and information and educational activities of the campaign “Your move! A pedestrian". Particular attention will be paid to such issues as crossing the road outside the pedestrian crossing zone; safe behavior on unregulated pedestrian crossings and when moving on the side of the road; a pedestrian crossing the road in a place where the driver does not expect to meet him; teaching children safety rules and regulations for pedestrians; educating older people on the key aspects of road safety; development of a culture of using reflective elements to improve the visibility of pedestrians in difficult weather conditions, at night, and others.

At the stage of preparation for the campaign “Your move! Pedestrian ”a set of thematic educational and promotional activities was developed specifically for each of the target audience groups: adult pedestrians; pedestrian children; parents and educators; current and future drivers.

The All-Russian social campaign in 2021 will focus on work in the regions, where, according to the results of 2019-2020, an increase in the number of accidents with pedestrians is observed. Events in online and offline formats will be held with the participation of residents of 15 regions of Russia: Astrakhan, Arkhangelsk, Vladimir, Vologda, Kirov, Magadan, Omsk, Penza, Tver, Yaroslavl regions, the city of Sevastopol, the republics of Buryatia, Tyva, North Ossetia-Alania and Yamalo- Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

In each region, about 180 different events are planned. Seminars, interactive lectures, consultations, game mechanics will be organized in places of greatest concentration of road users, including pedestrian crossings, public transport stops, driving schools and gas stations, parks, shopping and entertainment centers, educational organizations and health-improving institutions, organization of recreation and health improvement of children.

The social campaign will pay much attention to working with pedestrian children. In the summer, a road show will be held for them in 5 regions of the country, during which a car with special equipment will visit key settlements, where a team of trainers will conduct training sessions and lessons on situational modeling of dangerous road situations. The road show events will be attended by at least 1,000 young viewers aged 5 to 14.

Information support for the campaign will be carried out at the federal and regional levels and will include all communication channels - mass media, online publications, social media, audio and video.
