NGO Road Safety Russia's TV Adverts Included in WHO Library

30 January 2014

On 27 January the World Health Organisation has launched an оnline library of road safety mass media campaigns as a new resource for governments and NGOs.

The library contains some of the most powerful video and audio road safety campaigns from around the world. It is intended to inspire and provide possible concepts for people wishing to develop their own campaigns. The library can be searched by topic (for example, drink driving), language, and WHO region. It currently contains about 60 campaigns from Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, the Czech Republic, India, Kenya, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Great Britain and Vietnam.

The section of the library devoted to Russian campaigns contains three television adverts, two of which were created with the participation of NGO Road Safety Russia.

The “Above all the toys” advert was shot as part of the “Car Seats for Children” campaign in 2011. This was a joint project of the General Department of Road Traffic Safety of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian Association of Motor Insurers (RAMI) and NGO Road Safety Russia. The “Buckle Up If You Want to Survive” advert was shot as part of the 2008 “Road Safety” campaign, which was also developed by these three partner organisations.

Each campaign is accompanied by a description providing further details, for example, about the campaign’s objectives, its target audience and key messages, and the organisations and agencies behind the campaign.

"We are pleased to make this library available to partners, including partners in developing countries,” said Dr Etienne Krug, Director of the WHO Department of Violence and Injury Prevention. We hope that by providing access to these often hard-hitting and emotional campaigns, we will help them save valuable time and resources as they develop their own projects."

The online library will continue to expand with the addition of new video clips. The project was developed with the financial support of Bloomberg Philanthropies and is part of the Global Road Safety Programme.
