We wish safe roads to everyone this year!

24 December 2013

Dear road traffic participants! On behalf of NGO “Road Safety Russia” and from me personally I would like to send all of you my New Year greetings!

New Year holidays are coming. During this time of the year the number of cars increases, everyone hurries to buy presents. That is why I am appealing to all of you to be especially careful and polite on the road.

Last year was interesting and productive. In cooperation with State Road Safety Department at the Ministry of Interior of Russian Federation and Russian Association of Motor Insurers we implemented social campaign “Buckle Up!”, which united all regions of our country to fight for road safety. Another campaign “Above All, Wear A Helmet”, implemented in summer, proved the importance of helmets and protective elements usage to all drivers of two-wheeled vehicles.

During this year we paid  special attention to child safety on the roads. We mentioned the importance of teaching small kids basic road safety rules since kindergarden, the importance of using child seats, the importance of attaching retroreflective elements to rucksacks and clothes of young pedestrians. Because  child road safety forms in all such small things.

2013 year is remarkable as it was the year when the reforming of driver’s training system, one of the basic components in the Road Safety field, began. NGO “Road Safety Russia” was directly involved in this process, and we will do everything so that new training programs could prepare only responsible and competent drivers, who will help to reduce the number of road deaths.

Adoption of the law “on Road Safety” preceded the reforming and increased the number of penalties, including driving without seat-belts and child carriage violation. We are sure that road safety will benefit from this next year.

Unfortunately, the number of accidents on Russian roads is still high. And, of course, next year we will continue our work in designated directions. But, I think, that all the road users – drivers, pedestrians, passengers – are responsible for reducing the number of road victims in the new year. To achieve this let’s promise each other, that in 2014 we will not violate traffic rules, cross the street in the forbidden places and on the red light, we will respect traffic lights and road signs, and we will not violate speed regulations and under no circumstances shall we get behind the wheel being drunk . I am asking grown-ups to set a good example of road behavior for your children. If you are a law-abiding person, the child will follow the lead of you.

We wish you safe roads in New Year! Happy New Year!

Natalia Agre, President Road Safety Russia NGO
