25 April 2013

The nationwide public awareness campaign “Car Seats for Children” has won an award at the Global Road Safety Film Festival: the central element of the campaign, a television advert entitled “Reminders”, was voted “Best European Road Safety TV Advert”. The Car Seats for Children campaign was a joint project of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian Association of Motor Insurers, and the NGO Road Safety Russia. The award was presented at an official ceremony in Paris on 24 April.

The main aim of the campaign was to reduce deaths and injuries among child passengers. The extensive work conducted during the campaign resulted in a 5% fall in the number of deaths among child passengers (in 2012, compared to 2011).

“We are proud that it was a Russian project that the jury named the best in Europe and that a national road safety programme received such high praise,” said Natalia Agre, president of Road Safety Russia. “Our main aim today is to create the best possible road safety culture in Russia. Our strategy was based on numerous studies and international expertise, and we intend to continue our work in this area.”

The Car Seats for Children campaign was named Social Project of the Year in the national Golden Teddy Bear Awards. The campaign was also commended by the judges for the 25 KADR competition and at a number of festivals, including the Kiev International Advertising Festival, Belyi Kvadrat and Red Apple.

The Road Safety Film Festival was held with the support of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), UNECE, and the Organisation Internationale de le Francophonie. Work from 29 countries was entered in the competition this year.
