22 March 2013

Today, taxi drivers all over the world celebrate their professional holiday. Thus, on 22 March 1907 on the streets of London came the first car equipped with special counters.

These first London taxis were green and red colors. Yellow color, which is considered traditional for these cars, appeared thanks to John Hertz, founder of The Hertz Corporation. Taking old cars in payment for new, he changed theirs color to yellow and used them as taxis. Bright cars were easily seen on the streets, and later the practice to paint taxi in yellow was taken as a rule, almost all over the world.

However, the London taxi traditionally are painted black, Polish taxis are usually colorful. In Hong Kong, there are three types of color taxis: the most of them are red, green taxis are used in the New Territories, and blue - on the island of Lantau. In the UAE, taxi cars are usually painted in a cream color, as in Germany. In Singapore you will find the blue taxis, and in Thailand - pink.

Another recognizable sign of a taxi - is checkered pattern. According to one version, the first such pattern emerged in the 20s of the last century on the machines in the U.S., which they borrowed from racing symbols. It has to attract the attention of potential passengers and to symbolize the speed of movement.
