On the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims the«Road Safety Russia» public organization together with other members of the Association of non-governmental organizations “For Road Safety” calls upon drivers to commemorate all road traffic victims. On 18 November 2012 at 16.00 sharp all warm-hearted drivers should turn the hazard warning flashers on their vehicles for five minutes in commemoration of all people who lost their lives in road accidents. The organizers propose to make this action nationwide and draw attention to the global disaster - road traffic fatalities.

 

According to the statistics, more than 23000 persons were killed and 21600 persons were injured in road accidents inRussiathis year. And the majority of road fatalities are young people aged from 18 to 35. The causes of car crashes are still the same: more than 80% of accidents occur due to drivers’ flagrant traffic offenses including excessive speeding, moving into oncoming lane and violation of cross-road pass priority.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is held on the third Sunday in November every year pursuant to the resolution of the UN General Assembly. First the day was observed in 1993 by RoadPeace - the national charity for road crash victims in the UK.

On this solemn day we address all drivers and motorcyclist to turn the hazard warning flashers on their vehicles at 16.00 sharp (local time) for five minutes in commemoration of all road traffic victims.

The members of the Association of non-governmental organizations “For Road Safety” are the “Road Safety Russia” autonomous non-profit organization, the “Center for Road Safety Improvement - Polite Driver” autonomous non-profit organization, the “Moscow Region Driving Schools” non-profit partnership, the “Federation of Russian Car Owners” interregional public organization, the “All-Russia Society of Motorists” public organization, the “Auto Lady” non-profit partnership, the “Probok.net” center for expertise, the “Taxi Driver” interregional trade-union organization.
