08 February 2012

The drivers in Omsk were in favor of respectful relations on the road. The results of program «I respect you» were evaluated. The activity was carried out among 200 drivers in Omsk. Before the work program began all volunteers received special «I respect you» stickers fixing them on the car indicating thereby their involvement. This activity had not only looked interesting for passenger cars drivers. The drivers of public transportation vehicles, the shuttle bus drivers and representatives of public transport companies decided to take part in this activity as well.

It was followed by visiting the checkpoints with location indicated at the official site of the State Traffic Police of the region. In these check points the participants were supposed to arrive for assessing the operational and sanitary status of a car. This was carried out during all ten days that the activity was underway. Inspectors were evaluating the clean status of a car, checked whether the first aid kit was available, they checked the availability of fire extinguisher, the emergency parking sign and other required equipment on board. According to organizing committee, the participants arrived to the checkpoints on schedule, on time, despite the festivities that sometimes occurred in their families.

In addition to that, according to the terms of the competition, each participant gave a voluntary consent on concealed video monitoring. The MVA commissars, who were partners in this activity, were touring the city in their cars. They were using dashboard cameras to check the behavior of the participants of the campaign on the road. Organizers pointed out that the absolute majority of participants had not violated the Traffic Rules showing respect to other participants of the road traffic. The dashboard camera even recorded such an unexpected case when one of the drivers having stickers at the rear window spotted a child who was hesitant to cross the road.

The driver pulled the car to the curb, left the car and helped the small citizen of Omsk to cross the road. The most polite drivers were selected. They were the three drivers from the category of personal and public transport. They had the highest scores during the days that the competition lasted. They were awarded honorary certificates and presents. On top of that, 10 most active participants of the contest were give encouragement prizes.

The award ceremony was followed by a round table discussion attended by the organizers of the work program, the drivers who won the competition and representatives of the media. Together with the leadership of the State Traffic Police in the region they discussed the issues of the culture of behavior on the road and issues of legal awareness among all participants of the road traffic. For instance, the individual taxi drivers were unanimous to recognize that the sticker «I respect you» was having an exceptional disciplinary feature about it. Representatives of the transport companies pointed out that conducting this activity stirred interest among the drivers in their companies. They also suggested using the sticker «I respect you» as an award or as a sign to be installed on a car driven by the best driver based on results of the previous week. On the whole, all participants of the roundtable came to conclusion that in the future it was necessary to carry out with other stages of the same activity, to develop this move aimed at obtaining the sticker «I respect you» among as many drivers as possible and making the participation in this activity aimed at mutual respect a prestigious thing.
