Traffic police waits proposals from Russians on how to rearranging zebra crossings

The Traffic Police of the Russian Ministry of Interior is requesting all participants of the road traffic to take an active part inpublic discussion «Pedestrian Right», which is taking place on the agency official web site.

«We are proposing all visitors of our internet portal to read through the material presented which consists of statistical data and the expert review of the level of safety of pedestrians on the road to be followed by sending us your proposals and comments», - the Deputy Head of Directorate of Legal Compliance and Propaganda of Safety Traffic in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Vladimir Shevchenko was quoted as saying.

«The issue of the accident frequency involving pedestrians is high on agenda. It requires making immediate steps. This is why we decided to organize the public discussion to address the issue of «Pedestrian right» on our website. This discussion will enable representatives of the executive authorities and expert community as well as citizens to develop jointly the steps to increase the safety status among pedestrians, - Vladimir Shevchenko continued. - But discussion would have been incomplete if citizens, who are participants of the road traffic, do not submit their proposals».

The proposals on introducing changes into effective National Standards, regulatory documents, setting forth requirements on safe layout and engineering design of pedestrian crossings can be made using electronic mailing address which is shown in the web site public discussions section. Colonel Shevchenko assured that all submitted proposals, comments and notes would be addressed in the most accurate manner by the experts of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The most important proposals will be used in work on preventing motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians in obligatory manner.

In addition to that, in this section the citizens canreport to the executive body of the State Traffic Inspectoratein the region on the drawbacks in arranging specific pedestrian crossing. «Each application will be used to take required response steps», - Colonel Shevchenko pointed out.
