Adults carried a boy without child car seat

24 October 2011

As many as seven people suffered in a head-on collision of two Russian passenger vehicles. Serious injuries were inflicted on a 3 year old boy. The boy was carried inside the car without a restraining child seat. The adults travelling with him had not bothered about the boy safety.

The accident happened late in the evening on October 23 in Kurgan region not far away from Chistoye Pole village. A 28 year old driver was behind the wheel of a passenger car VAZ-21099. The car went to the oncoming traffic lane and failed to take over. As a result it had a head-on collision with car VAZ-2109. A 38 year old man was driving the “nine” model, together with him there were three more passengers inside the car salon: a 25 year old young man with a young woman and their 3 year old son.

Both drivers and five passengers of the two Russian cars suffered in the motor vehicle accident. It was the small boy who sustained the heaviest injuries. His parents had not taken safety precautions and were carrying him without a restraining car seat. This was the reason why the small passenger was admitted into the hospital with multiple injuries. The research shows that the use of car seats for children is decreasing the chances of sustaining injuries for young passengers by 70%.
