"Cresland Treasures" travel around the country

29 October 2011

The first educational and entertainment campaign "Cresland Treasures" was held on October 29 in Kaluga. This is the quest to involve families within the scope of the social campaign "Car Seat to Every Child". The All-Russian social campaign was initiated by the State Traffic Police Inspectorate and supported by the "Russian Union of Car Insurers” and NGO «Risk Free Road Traffic".
Starting at noon, the guests with their children arriving to the major shopping center "San and Mart" in Kaluga were met by tall bunnies, lions, and robots. They invited everybody to enter the huge purple tents inside which the adventure for the whole family was about to begin. Teams consisting of a least one adult were set up ready to embark on a journey through the Land of Cresland.
The country of Cresland that day was situated directly in the shopping center. Stage islands were located in the lobby of the shopping center and they were easily recognized. At the first stage parents with children had to choose car suitable for a child accounting for the height and age. At the second stage it was necessary to determine whether children were fastened correctly inside car seats – here the promoters were helping the players. At the third stage the contestants had to provide counter-arguments to refute the common misunderstanding regarding the purchase of car seats. Active participation of children was welcome; the adults, rather, helped them out when the questions were tricky.
Following the bonus stage – a visit to convertible "Smart" with installed car seat in front – there was a long-awaited award session: discount coupons to purchase seats, floor mats protecting the front seat from children shoes, informational brochures, coloring books and stickers.
"All teams did well, - said a representative of "Risk Free Road Traffic" Ekaterina Zagorodnya. - Residents of Kaluga are fairly well informed about children safety, although not all parents know how to fasten a child in the car seat".
"On a regular basis we are conducting numerous activities and socially important actions aimed at promoting the road safety issues, including the use of child car seats. As a rule these campaigns result in improving the road traffic safety standard, - said the head of department of propaganda and promotion of the road traffic safety of the Traffic Police reporting to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Kaluga region, police Lieutenant Colonel Olga Lobanova. - "Cresland Treasures" action demonstrates the necessity and timeliness of using this vital instrument of car safety. We invited entire school classes with teachers and parents to take part in this educational game".
Unfortunately, the need to have such activities is illustrated by the sad statistics gathered by the traffic police. Only in the first 9 months of 2011 in Kaluga region there were 122 traffic accidents involving children and adolescents. That is every second traffic incident involves a young passenger (65 motor vehicle accidents, in which six children were killed and 78 - injured). Speaking of Russia, during the same period there were as many as 414 children killed and 6815 – injured.
Children belong to the most vulnerable categories of passengers, is benchmarked to adults in similar motor vehicle accidents children suffer more. According to the opinion poll, only 50% of parents having children under 12 year old are using car seats when they travel with kids in a car. At the same time 20% of parents believe that keeping children "on mom’s handles is safer" whereas the other 13% question that the seat can protect the child in event of an accident.
The "Cresland Treasures" action will take place in theme parks and shopping centers in Moscow and the Moscow region, in Vladimir, Vologda, Kaluga, Ryazan, St. Petersburg, Tambov, Tver and Tula. Information about when and where the action will take place in your city town is given on site www.bezdtp.ru
